Company Review: Atlanta HVAC
December 9, 2009
Atlanta HVAC is company that specialized in residential and commercial HVAC installation, service and repair. A major component of this blog is to give unbiased reviews of local companies and contractors from a professional’s point of view. After about a 30 minute interview with Jay Thompson, a Sr. Technician from Atlanta HVAC, and another 15 minutes speaking to office staff I felt like I had a good handle on this company. Overall, the technician’s knowledge level was very high. Having taught hvac at several local trade schools, I always like to quiz professionals on various topics and Mr. Thompson was spot on. He had good knowledge of the latest 13 seer equipment and walked me through how he would troubleshoot several different problems. One thing that I would like to point out here is that there isn’t always just one “right answer” to these types of questions. Most often, the “right” answer to a question that I might ask is to ask several clarifying questions to determine the specific steps or procedures that would be appropriate in that situation. For example let’s say that while making a service call to a home having an air conditioning problem, the technician finds out that the indoor unit is blowing but no cold air is coming out(this is one of the most common problems that a HVAC tech will encounter) What are the proper steps for diagnosing the problem and subsequently ensuring that the overall system will function properly for the near future. While this might seem like a simple question in actuality it is not and the more experience a service technician has the more variations on this problem he will have encountered in his career. After speaking to the Atlanta HVAC tech it was clear that he had a good deal of experience with a wide array of air conditioning and heat pump units. After my conversation with the tech I spoke to the office staff and was also pleased. Sherry Thompson, Jay’s wife runs the office and she was courteous and professional. While she did not have technician level knowledge she did ask very pertinent questions when I did a “mock call” to determine how they would handle the average customer. Overall, I was very impressed with the company, they offer a solid(better than industry standard) warranty on all new installations.(10 years hassle free repairs) which for a company that has been around for several years is a good sign. Overall I would give a thumbs up to Atlanta HVAC and rate them as a solid heating and air conditioning contractor.
